Bosa is a lively market town with plenty of bars and restaurants
and has a picturesque old town which is a maze of narrow
cobbled streets leading up to the castle. From Bosa you
can book a trip along the navigable length of the river
Temo, which is about five kilometres, up to the ruins of
a Roman bridge passing the Romanesque cathedral of Saint
Peter. You can also take boat trips along the coast and
see breathtaking views of the local scenery, with hidden
coves and beaches, or you can hire a boat and take a trip
to find your own secluded cove and swim or snorkel from
the boat.

If you enjoy exploring while on holiday, there are lots
of interesting villages to discover. By just driving around
you will come across many villages, all with different qualities.
You can find villages where every large wall space is filled
with a huge mural, painted by a local artist or another
where all the locals weave beautiful baskets and sell them
from their doorsteps. Out in the countryside you will come
across many "Nuraghe". These strange stone buildings,
dating form around 1500 B.C., are all over the island and
are all that remains of the islands indigenous population

For those interested in nature and wildlife Sardinia is
a paradise, with a wide range of interesting flora and fauna.
You will find many interesting species of plants, some of
which are exclusive to Sardinia. There are also many types
of interesting animals to be seen here in Sardinia, some
of which have developed into a sub species that differ from
elsewhere. Just a few of the animals it is possible to see
are Mouflon, Monk Seals, Bonelli Eagle and Flamingo. To
the north of Bosa, in a protected area, you can find one
of the few remaining nesting sites of the Griffon Vulture.
These huge birds can often be seen circling from the road
leaving Bosa towards Alghero. It is also possible to go
by four wheel drive vehicle up to observe the nesting sites.

If your passion is fishing you are in the right place.
Both the river Temo and the sea around this coast team with
fish. Fishing is one of the local passions and almost everyone
here fishes. From Bosa Marina it is possible to take a trip
for sea fishing. There are two boats that take holidaymakers
of all abilities out to some favourite fishing spots and
they can also advise on how best to cook your catch.
In Bosa Marina it is possible to take a trip on what is
locally known as the "Trenino Verde" (The Little
Green Train). This train, once used by the locals to get
to the large town of Macomer, is now a tourist attraction.
As it wends its way through the countryside between Bosa
and Macomer you will see locals working in the vineyards,
famous in Sardinia for the excellent Malvasia di Bosa wine.

If your interests lie in exploring the culture through
architecture there is no shortage of buildings of interest
in and around Bosa. Dominating the whole town is the impressive
castle of Serravalle, built by the Malaspina family back
in 1112. Here within the walls of the castle, you can find
the small 14th century church of Nostra Signora di Regnos
Altos, which has some very nice frescos discovered after
restoration. One other important building is the Cathedral,
built between 1805 and 1809 by a Bosan architect. It has
inside many interesting marble alters. On the left bank
of the river Temo you will see a row of buildings, some
of which are in disrepair. This was once a thriving tannery
and here you will find a small but interesting museum showing
the tanning process.

This area is a wine making area with several very good
wines produced locally but very rarely found outside the
area. There are several local cantina where you will be
welcome to try the wine produced and take a look at the
wine making process. Some wines to look out for are Malvasia
di Bosa; a complicated wine often drunk as an aperitif,
it can be almost sweet but at the same time has a dry finish.
Another is the Vernaccia di Oristano; this is a strong wine
almost like a dry sherry but is not a fortified wine. Others
include Cannonau and Giro red wines and Vermentino and Moscato
Whites. If you feel brave you could also try the local firewater,
Filu E Ferru. This grappa can be up to 60% A.B.V., so be
careful. There are also very nice digestives made with lemons
or myrtle berries.
