Bosa Town
The town is set on the banks of the river Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, it is possible to go up river as far as the Romanesque church of St. Peter dating back to 1062. The origins of Bosa date back to Phoenician times of IX century B.C. but the most important mention dates back to Roman times when Bosa Vetus was near the present church of St. Peter.

The Temo valley is an area of fruitful orchards, olive groves and vineyards, having once being a flood plain. Around this area the prized wine, Malvasia, is produced. This vine needs the very limey soil found around the Bosa area, the locals are justifiably proud of this delicious wine. Teamed with the local pastries it makes a treat indeed.
The old historic centre of Bosa spreads up the side of the hill away from the river and is topped by Malaspina Castle on Serraville hill. Built by the Malaspina family around 1112 to protect Bosa from frequent invasions. Inside the castle there is the small church of Regnos Altos where recent restoration works have uncovered beautiful frescos.

The medieval centre of Bosa is known as Sa Costa. The houses are multi coloured and are built in a traditional tall, thin design. The walk up through the cobbled street leading up to the castle through these houses is well worth the effort. The views from here encompass the whole of Bosa and Bosa Marina.
The walk by the side of the river is palm tree lined and from here you can look at the many fishing and pleasure boats moored at the river banks.
The most important monument in Bosa in the Cathedral built between 1805 and 1809, being partially reconstructed in the early 19th. The main street leads from here and the small Church of the Rosary, with its beautiful 1875 clock jutting out can be found here. A small square with marble fountain, surrounded by the arches of palazzo Delitala and the 18th century palazzo Don Carlo.

Next is the Carmine Church and cloister. This church is rich in wooden decorations and was built in 1779 in Piedmontese late baroque style. Not far away on the Carmine hill is the Capuchin convent dating back to the early 17th century.
On the opposite side of the Temo there is a row of old buildings. This area is called Sas Conzas and the buildings were once tanneries. These tanneries once satisfied all the leather requirements of Sardinia and it now holds a small museum showing old photographs and equipment from that era.
Although Bosa has a lot to interest and entertain the visitor it is, above all, a living and working town. It is still possible to see old gentleman sat outside weaving lobster pots and old ladies, dressed in black, sat at their looms weaving patterns from ancient tales onto the famous Bosa filet - a filigree lace.
The wonderful beach at Bosa Marina is a pleasant 25-30 minute walk away.
